What is press mud?
During crushing of sugar cane, juice and bagasse are separated. Cane juice is subjected to settle in a clarifier after a long time and sulphur treatment. All the in soluble impurities are coagulated and removed by vacuum filtration. The product formed is called as press mud.
Present status
Sulphitation press mud of sugar industries or its modified products are extensively used as organic manure with a number of distinct and proven advantages. In general the manure is prepared by mixing the raw press mud with distillery spent wash followed by microbal decomposition.
